Many people around us irritate us every day! Some more and some less! When our contact with these people is reduced, it is relatively painless. But what happens when that person is your employer or even your mom?
Then, we come back to ourselves and look for ways we can manage this situation and keep our cool without losing control. So, here are five techniques that you can apply in your everyday life to deal with annoying people.
5 ways to deal with annoying people
1. Put yourself in the other person’s shoes
It’s important to put yourself in the other person’s shoes to understand why they might be reacting or thinking the way they do. Even a role-playing game where you will be in the place of your boss and you will answer as he or she does may help you better understand his/her attitude and stop them from irritating you so much.
2. Deconstruct the position you have given this person
Try to think of this person in completely human moments, such as eating, sleeping, or even being on the toilet. It may sound funny to you to think these thoughts about your employer, but in doing so, you will succeed in depriving him of the power you have given them in your mind.
3. Avoid them
It goes without saying that we don’t want or need negativity in our lives, and that’s why it’s important to avoid the very person who irritates us as much as possible or not to enter into conversations with them if we know how they will end.
4. Pick your battles
It is tiring and painful for you and your mental health to be constantly in tension and fighting every day. If you know that a behavior doesn’t change no matter how much you repeat it, there’s no point in getting upset about it every day. Choose your battles, choose the most important of the things that bother you to confront, otherwise, your life will be a constant conflict with immediate effects on your own psychology.
5. Last resort: play dumb
Play dumb, pretend that you don’t understand. You don’t need to constantly fight. If your mom is pressuring you to get married, but you don’t even want to hear about marriage, you can say that you are looking for the right partner! Of course, we are not talking about lies or mockery, but if one day you are not able to take this battle and fight one more time, you can answer what the other person wants to hear to avoid fighting and ensure your peace of mind.
